The Pleasant Grove Recreation Department has teamed up with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources to offer a community youth fishing program. This program is open to all youth ages 6 through 13 years old. Youth 12 and 13 years old are required to purchase a Utah Fishing License at any sporting goods retailer. (Wal Mart, Big 5 etc.) Cost for this license is $5.00. This program will educate youth on casting, knot tying, proper use of fishing equipment, fish biology and diversity, aquatic ecology, water cycle and quality, fisheries management and ethics, fishing opportunities in Utah, and most important- FUN!
Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, for six weeks, beginning April 10 and ending May 15. Each class is 2 hours, with the first half hour instructing participants on the above mentioned topics and the last one and a half hours fishing. Classes will be held at the Manila Creek Pond, located at 3300 North 900 West. Participants will be fishing mainly for Rainbow Trout. A volunteer adult instructor will be supervising and working with the participants in groups of five or six. This is a great chance to experience Utah’s fabulous outdoors. Participants are asked to provide their own fishing poles, but if they do not have them a limited number will be available through Pleasant Grove Recreation and the Division of Wildlife Resources. Other supplies will be furnished.
Register for this program at the Pleasant Grove Community Center or online here.
